Janák, Pavel (Czech architect, 1882-1956)
|
Note: An architect, urbanist, and designer of furniture and objects; worked in the Czech cubo-modernist style. Studied at the Czech Technical University in Prague 1899-1905, and the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts 1906-1908. Joined the Union of Architects within the Mánes Association of Plastic Artists, and helped found the Artěl Cooperative, both in 1908. He also co-founded the Prague Artistic Workshops in 1912, and the Association of Czech Accomplishment in 1914. He acted as professor of architecture at the Prague School of Decorative Arts 1921-1942. In addition to his own designs, he worked on reconstructions of historical buildings and objects including Prague Castle (1936). He is regarded as a pioneer of Czech modernist architecture. |
