Record Type: Corporate Body
Little Masters (Attic vase painters, active 560-530 BCE)

Note: A name applied to black-figure miniaturist painters of so-called Little Master cups (lip cups, band cups, and droop cups). The subject was often animals, centrally placed between the handles and/or on the lip of the cup. The artist's signature was often an important aspect of the decoration. The name was first used to refer to a group of 16th-century northern European artists who specialized in small-format prints and was later borrowed to refer to this loose group of Athenian vase painters.
