Hormisdas, Pope (Roman pope, saint, died 523)
|
Note: Bron into the prestigious family of Frosinone (Frusino) in the Campagna di Roma (Latium); due to his first name, some scholars have suggested he was of Persian descent. Before receiving higher orders, he had been married; his son became pope under the name of Silverius (536-537). His papacy is noted for having resolved the Acacian schism, with the reunion between Constantinople and Rome ratified in the cathedral of Constantinople. |
