Christian IV, King of Denmark and Norway (Danish king, 1577-1648)
|
Note: Of the House of Oldenburg, son of Frederick II of Denmark and Sophia of Mecklenburg. In 1597 he married Anna Catherine of Brandenburg, mother of his son and successor, Frederick III. After she died, Christian married Kirsten Munk in 1615. He is known for leading two unsuccessful wars against Sweden and bringing disaster upon his country by leading it into the Thirty Years’ War. He energetically promoted trade and shipping; he left a national heritage as patron of many fine buildings. |
