Note: Born into a minor gentry family at Calton Hall in the village of Kirkby Malhamdale, Yorkshire. Involved in the First Civil War. Was appointed Captain-General of the New Model Army in 1645. With the ending of the civil wars on the mainland of Britain, Lambert became actively involved in civilian politics as well as maintaining his military commands.
