Note: Born in Brooklyn, New York, McDermott graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1919 with a mechanical engineering degree. He co-founded first Geophysical Service and later Texas Instruments. He and his wife Margarett McDermott (1912-2018) were major philanthropists, and focused on the state of Texas. The McDermotts were particularly interested in improving the arts and education. |
