Galvez, Raphael (Brazilian painter, 1907-1998)
|
Note: Raphael Galvez joined the Liceu de Artes e Ofícios de São Paulo in 1921, taking courses in ceramics, terracotta, and drawing. Student of Enrico Vio (1874-1960) and fellow of the painter Ado Malagoli (1906-1994). In 1923, he began studying sculpture with Nicolau Rollo (1889-1970), attending his studio for a long time and him in projects. In the 1930s, Galvez worked in marble shops and a foundry. He signed up as a regular student at the Escola de Belas Artes de São Paulo [School of Fine Arts of São Paulo] in 1937. At that time, he frequented the studio of Joaquin Figueira (1904 - 1943), and created drawings and paintings. In the 1940s, he painted landscapes of the city and the outskirts of the city of São Paulo. He later approached Flávio Motta (1916) and several artists linked to Santa Helena Group. He taught for about 20 years at the Faculdade e Belas Artes de São Paulo. In 1994, the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo presented the exhibition Raphael Galvez - The City of the Shadow 40 (painting). |
