Laforest, Alain (Canadian architectural photographer, born 1952)
|
Note: Alain Laforest was born in Shawinigan, Québec, in 1952 and moved to Montréal, Québec, in 1975 where he practices photography. Although he has not received formal training in photography, he has attended courses on photography at the University of Ottawa (Ottawa, Ontario, 1980), Rochester University (Rochester, New York, 1989) and Cégep de Maisonneuve (Montréal, Québec, 1991-1992). Laforest has worked as a photographer and documented architecture for Héritage Montréal (1976-1981), the ministère de la Culture du Québec (1980), the Association photographique de Montréal (1987-1995) and more recently the chair of landscape architecture of Université de Montréal (1996). Throughout his career Laforest has collaborated with such architects as Pierre Thibault and Gilles Saucier, and has worked extensively with Phyllis Lambert from 1976 to the present. Laforest's photographs have been published in numerous books and journals among which include Canadian Architect (1995), Le Devoir (1993- 1996), 'Montréal au XXième siècle' by Michel Lessard (Montréal: Éditions de l'Homme, 1995), and 'Maisonneuve' by Paul-André Linteau (Montréal: Boréal Express, 1981). In addition he has exhibited his works at Musée Dufresne (Montréal, Québec, 1983), Musée McCord (Montréal, Québec, 1986) and Centre Canadien d'Architecture/Canadian Centre for Architecture (1989). Laforest currently lives in Montréal, Québec, and acts as head of photography and audio visual services at the Centre Canadien d'Architecture/Canadian Centre for Architecture. |
