Guo Xi (Chinese painter and theorist, 1023 - ca.1085 CE)
|
Note: Born in Wen County, Henan Province. He served as an ‘Yixue’ (a court painter serving the Emperor) at the Hanlin Painting Academy during the Xining era, first era of the rule of the Shenzong Emperor (1068-1077 CE). He was skilled in landscape painting, and wrote a text titled "Linquan Gaozhi" (The Lofty Ambition of Forests and Springs) which is a significant work on landscape painting in the history of Chinese Painting. |
