Record Type: Person
Ehrenberg, Felipe (Mexican conceptual artist, graphic artist, and publisher, 1943-2017)

Note: Ehrenberg was an important cultural figure in Mexico during the 1960s and 1970s. After the 1968 Tlatelolco massacre, when hundreds of left-wing students were killed by the government, he fled to England. During his six years there, he and his wife, Martha Hellion, and David Mayor cofounded Beau Geste Press, which published works by artists associated with the Fluxus movement. He returned to Mexico in 1974. He was a part of the 'los grupos' movement, creating sociopolitical work that could address oppressive political regimes. He also worked as a professor at the Universidad Veracruzana, and received Fulbright and Guggenheim scholarships. From 2001 to 2006, he served as the cultural attaché to Brazil. He was also co-founder of Biombo Negro magazine.
