Karmi, Ram (Israeli architect, born 1931)
|
Note: Son of a family of architects, Ram Karmi studied at the Technion, Haifa from 1949 to 1950, and at the Architectural Association School in London until 1955, where he was influenced by the Brutalist movement's use of reinforced concrete. Ram joined his father Dov Karmi's firm in 1956 with Z. Melzer. His work with Karmi-Melzer-Karmi (and later Karmi Associates) is distinguished by the sculptural use of cast concrete. Representative works include the El Al Office Building of 1963, and the Lady Davies Amal Technical School, 1974. Ram Karmi was chief architect of Israel's Ministry of Housing from 1975-1979, and held a Special Chair in Architecture at the Technion, Haifa from 1968-1985. Israeli architect. |
