Lumière, Auguste (French photographer, filmmaker, scientist, and inventor, 1862-1954)

Note: In 1883, the Lumière brothers, Auguste and Louis, along with their father Antoine, founded a photographic supply factory in Lyon called "Antoine Lumière et ses Fils". From 1887 on, the Lumière brothers researched many photographic processes. In 1895 in Paris, the brothers opened their "Cinématographe" theatre, which specialized in animated images. The brothers obtained colored positive prints in 1905. In 1907, they marketed the autochrome plate process. In 1908, Auguste received the Croix d'officier, Legion of Honour. He became a military commander in 1923 and "Grand Officier" in 1935. Lumière researched and wrote a book on tuberculosis contamination in 1910. He was named the head of radiology services of the Hôtel-Dieu in Lyon in 1914.
