Note: American philanthropist, industrialist, and art collector; worked in the textile manufacturing business. After his death, Steere's estate was given to numerous charitable donations. His collection of paintings, bronzes, vases, and engravings was sold at auction by F.J. Sheldon at the Providence Art Club from Tuesday, December 2 to Monday, December 8, 1890.
