|
Note: Eloise O'Mara Spaeth was an art collector, author, a traveling exhibitions chairwoman for the American Federation of Art, a deputy commissioner of the American Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, a board member emeritus of the Archives of American Art and the Guildhall of East Hampton, N.Y, and co-founder of the Spaeth Foundation. She formed an art collection with her husband, Otto Lucien Spaeth (1897-1966)-an industrialist and the vice president of the Whitney Museum of American Art. The Spaeth collection included work by, among others, Picasso, Braque, Hopper, Lambert-Rucci, Matisse, Alexander Calder, Edward Hopper, Georgia O'Keeffe, Stuart Davis and Charles Sheeler. Much of the collection was sold but a few works of art, such as Edward Hopper's "Carolina Morning" were gifted to the Whitney Museum of American Art.
