Note: Stern was born in Mönchengladbach, and brought up in Düsseldorf, where his father founded the Galerie Julius Stern in 1913. He studied in Cologne, Berlin, Vienna, and Bonn. When Hitler came to power Stern moved to London with his sister where he opened a gallery. Shortly afterwards he moved to Montreal and opened the Dominion Gallery in 1940.
