Lysippos (Greek sculptor, active ca. 370-ca. 300 BCE)
|
Note: Literary sources such as those of Pliny record the long and prolific career of Lysippos, one of the most famous Greek sculptors, and the greatest from the school at Sikyon. He began as a bronzesmith, and most of his statues were of bronze. None of his original works have survived, and his work is known only through Roman copies. Among his works are the famous portraits of Alexander the Great, to whom he was court sculptor. |
