Isenmann, Caspar (German painter, active ca. 1430-1484)
|
Note: Notable Alsatian artist whose work testifies to the influence of Netherlandish painting in the upper Rhine. He had an exceptionally long career was certainly prolific although his only authenticated surviving work is the large altarpiece for St. Martin in Colmar (ca. 1465). This work, parts of which survive, was originally situated in the choir of St. Martin's, the largest church of Haute-Alsace; the altarpiece is an important example of late Alsatian Gothic. It has been used to attribute other works to Isenmann. |
