Overstreet, Joe (American painter, 1933-2019)
|
Note: Joseph Overstreet is an African-American painter from Mississippi. He studied at the California School of Arts and Crafts and the University of California. Since 1974, he ran Kenkeleba House, a nonprofit gallery on East Second Sreet in Manhattan dedicated to artists of color, that he founded with his partner, Corrine Jennings. he was a participant in the Black Arts Movement, and collaborated with Amiri Baraka as the Art Director for Harlem's Black Arts Repertory Theatre and School. |
