Zanini, Walter (Brazilian art critic and curator, 1925-2013)
|
Note: Brazilian art critic, curator, teacher and historian. In 1956, he graduated and in 1961, he obtained a doctor degree in History of Art by the Université Paris VIII. He founded the Departamento de Artes Plásticas of the Escola de Comunicação e Artes da Universidade de São Paulo (ECA-USP) and the first post-graduate course in Arts of Brazil. He was the first director of the Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Universidade de São Paulo (MAC-USP), and the curator of the 16th and 17th International Biennials of São Paulo (1981 and 1983). He wrote "Historia Geral da Arte no Brasil" (1983). He was a member of the Associação Nacional dos Pesquisadores em Artes Plásticas (ANPAP) and of the Comitê Brasileiro de História da Arte (CBHA). He searched to build a dialogue between modern and contemporary art, opening spaces for experimentation with media, art, and technology, such as video art, happenings, installations, performance and environmental art, among other artistic manifestations. |
