Duchamp, Alexina (American wife of artist and donor, 1906-1995, active in France)
|
Note: Former daughter-in-law of Henri Matisse, the widow of Marcel Duchamp and a close friend of John Cage and Jasper Johns. She maintained close ties to the city of Philadelphia and took pride in being an honorary trustee of its Museum of Art, which has the largest collection of Duchamp's work. In 1967 his last major work, "Étant donnés" was installed there, which had been built in secret with Alexina as Duchamp's only confidante. |
