Francavilla, Pietro (Flemish sculptor, architect, and painter, 1548-1615)

Note: A Flemish sculptor who was educated in Paris, Francavilla was born into a wealthy family. In 1570 he went to Florence to become a partner of Giambologna, with whom he worked for nearly 35 years. In 1604 he went to Paris, at the request of Marie de' Medici who wanted him to supervise the installation of Giambologna's bronze equestrian statue of Henry IV on Pont Neuf. He remained in Paris until his death in 1615. Comment on works: sculptor; architect; founder
