Van Vliet, Don (American painter and musician, 1941-2010)
|
Note: American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and visual artist best known by the stage name Captain Beefheart. As a musician, he maintained a changing ensemble known as the Magic Band, and recorded 13 studio albums between 1967 and 1982. In the mid-1980s he gave up music entirely and focused on painting, mounting exhibitions at SFMoMA, the Mary Boone Gallery, and in London. |
