The adventures of Gillion de Trazegnies, 2015: ECIP introduction (Romance of Gillion de Trazegnies; J. Paul Getty Museum Ms. 111; Getty Gillion) chapter 2 (the Gillion romance was born out of the Crusading effervescence of the years between 1451 and 1464. Anthony, the Grand Bastard of Burgundy (Dulmen, private collection), and Louis of Gruuthuse (Los Angeles, JPGM, Ms. 111) each owned the long version of the romance, copied in 1463 and 1464 respectively. Anthony's manuscript is dated on the last folio, followed by the scribe's signature, "David Aubert, manu propria" (Dulmen, p. 373); Louis's manuscript is dated at the beginning (Getty, fol. 8v)) |
