W. F. Stanley & Co. (English instrument makers, 1900-1960)
|
Note: William Ford Robinson Stanley first set up business for himself in 1854, and began a career inventing scientific instruments, however the name W.F. Stanley & Co. doesn't appear until 1900, according to the Dictionary of National Biography. Over time, Stanley invented an affordable "Panoptic Stereoscope," various improved surveying instruments, a meteronometer for measuring wind direction, and the steel-wire bicycle tire, among others, until his death in 1909. The firm dissolved in 1960. |
