Curtis, Jackie (American actor, playwright, and performer, 1947-1985)
|
Note: East Village performer wrote and appeared in his own plays collaborating with then-unknown actors including Candy Darling, Robert De Niro, Harvey Fierstein, Patti Smith, Jayne County, Penny Arcade and Holly Woodlawn. Curtis' work was inspired, in part, by the Playhouse of the Ridiculous. Plays included 'Glamour, Glory and Gold,' 'Vain Victory,' and 'Heaven Grand in Amber Orbit.' Andy Warhol and Paul Morrissey cast Curtis and Candy Darling in 'Flesh' (1968) and 'Women in Revolt' (1971), a satire of the women's liberation movement. |
