Eardley, Joan Kathleen Harding (Scottish painter, 1921-1963)

Note: Painter who preferred to paint subjects drawn from everyday experience. She was influenced by the Scottish Colourists, but also deeply affected by the life and atmosphere of the slums of the city. Known for her 'kitchen sink subjects' and paintings of the fishing village Catterline and the sea. For her subject-matter she concentrated on street life, young children and the elderly, blending realism and compassion but without sentimentality.
