Note: Tata was born 30 September 1911 in Shanghai, China, to Indian parents. Tata was an amateur street photographer in Shanghai, China, from 1936 to 1939, and a studio portrait photographer in Shanghai from 1940 to 1946. From 1946 to 1948, Tata worked as a reportage photographer in Bombay, India. From 1949 to 1952, Tata worked as a freelance documentary photographer in Shanghai, China. From 1952 to 1955, Tata settled in Hong Kong. In 1955-1956, Tata worked as a freelance photographer in Kashmir, India. In 1956, Tata emigrated to Montréal, Québec, Canada, and has since worked as a freelance photojournalist and portrait photographer. He became a naturalized Canadian citizen in 1961. In 1983, Tata returned to India to photograph. |
