Painter of Acropolis 606 (Attic vase painter, active 570-560 BCE)
|
Note: The Painter of Acropolis 606 worked as a vase painter in the black-figure technique in Athens in the 560s BCE. As with most Greek vase painters, his real name is unknown, and his work is identified only by stylistic traits. He takes his name from a vase he painted that was dedicated on the Acropolis in Athens and has the inventory number 606. The Painter of Acropolis 606 was a student of the Gorgon Painter; like his master, he decorated his vases with both large-scale and miniature figures. He favored large vessels such as dinoi, kraters, and amphorae. Excelling in composition, he often created complex groupings and overlapping figures in his work. He also decorated panel amphorae with single figures of horsemen. |
