Note: Japanese nihonga painter was renowned for his images of warriors. He was born into a family of wealthy merchants in Hineno, but was then adopted into the Taniguchi family of Kyoto. He first studied medicine in Tokyo in 1878, but later began painting studies with Kōno Bairei.
