Running, Orville Magnus (American painter and woodcutter, born 1910)
|
Note: Orville M. Running was born in Veblen, South Dakota, September 19, 1910. His family had ties to the Trondheim and Nordfjord areas of Norway. He received his BA from St. Olaf College in 1931. He graduated from Luther Theological Seminary in 1934. He served as pastor in several locations before joining the faculty at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, in 1946 to teach art and education. In 1950 he earned an MFA degree from the University of Iowa where he studied with James Lechay, Stuart Edie, and Mauricio Lasansky. He also studied at the Chicago Art Institute and attended the Art Students League in New York. He was head of the Art Department at Luther College for over 30 years and named the College Artist. |
