Abramovitz, Max (American architect, 1908-2004)

Note: Abramovitz studied at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (1929), Columbia University, NY (1931), and the École des Beaux-Arts, Paris (1932-1934). He began working with Wallace K. Harrison in 1934. After a series of partnerships involoving other architects, they formed Harrison and Abramovitz in 1945. Some of the architects' early work together included the Rockefeller Apartments in New York, 1936, and the Trylon and Perisphere for the World's Fair of 1939. Later they were involved in the planning of many high-profile projects in the eastern United States, including the United Nations complex, Lincoln Center, the Empire State Mall in Albany, and the Alcoa Building, Pittsburgh. The partnership with Harrison dissolved in 1976, and Abramovitz continued to work with Michael Harris and James Kingsland. American architect.
