Note: According to the Jewish historian Josephus, the daughter of Herodias and stepdaughter of Herod Antipas, tetrarch (ruler appointed by Rome) of Galilee, a region in Palestine. In Biblical accounts, Salome is known for her request of John the Baptist's execution on behalf of her mother. Scripture states that the girl demanded the severed head of John the Baptist on a platter.
