|
Note: Dutch family of artists, active mainly in Haarlem. Frans Hals is widely regarded as one of the most important artists of the Dutch New Republic, largely due to his unique style of loose brushwork and highly animated subjects. His brother, Dirck, painted genre paintings featuring outdoor gatherings. Frans' had five sons who were painters. Frans the Younger, Harmen, and Reynier were genre painters, Johannes was a portrait artist, and Nicolaes was known for his landscape printing. |
