Note: In 1834, merchant James Powell purchased Whitefriars Glass Works. A stained-glass department was added in 1844 to cater for the growing demand for windows.The company employed many distinguished artists as designers, including Edward Burne-Jones, Henry Holiday, H. E. Wooldridge, Henry Stacy Marks, William De Morgan, Philip Webb and Ford Madox Brown. The company's name changed in 1919 to James Powell & Sons (Whitefriars) Ltd. and again in 1962 to Whitefriars Glass Ltd.
