Westinghouse Electric Corporation (American corporation, 1945-1997)

Note: The company was founded as the Westinghouse Electric Company by George Westinghouse, the inventor of the air brake, to construct and market alternating-current electrical systems. Westinghouse became a major supplier to the electric utility industry, manufacturing a complete line of machinery and products used to generate, transmit, distribute, and control electricity. The company became the Westinghouse Electric Corporation on May 10, 1945, then a subsidiary CBS Corporation in 1997. Westinghouse Electric Company LLC, a nuclear power company, is an unrelated brand management subsidiary of CBS Corporation founded in 1999.
