Painter of Palermo 489 (Corinthian vase painter, active 640-600 BCE)
|
Note: A highly influential vase painter working in Corinth. His career begins in the Transitional period (640-625 BCE) and continues into Early Corinthian period (625-600 BCE). He specialized in the decoration of alabastra and often created compositions with a central motif flanked by figures facing each other. His work strongly influenced his students, such as the Columbus Painter, and other contemporary vase painters. As with most Greek vase painters, the real name of the Painter of Palermo 489 is unknown, and he is identified only by the stylistic traits of his work. He is named after an alabastron now in the Palermo Museum in Sicily. |
