Record Type: Person
Wormald, Edmund (English photographer, active ca. 1850-ca. 1910)

Note: In 1856, Wormald opened the "Photographic Gallery of Art" with William Child in Leeds. The partnership specialized in handcolored portraits with backgrounds of landscapes or sea-views. In 1858 the firm "Child & Wormald" began to practise architectural photography in and around the city of Leeds. The partnership was dissolved soon after 1858, and until ca. 1864, Wormald worked alone. He was joined by his brother Joseph Wormald in the mid-1860s, and from 1866 to 1888 the firm was known as "Wormald Brothers." From the 1860s to the 1900s, Wormald produced the most complete record of the city of Leeds in the late nineteenth-century.
