Yi Jijeong (Korean calligrapher and government official, 1588-1650)
|
Note: Yi Jijeong was a calligrapher and civil official active in the mid-Joseon period. His calligraphy left a distinct mark on the first half of the seventeenth century. He was particularly fond of cursive script and actively embraced the cursive style of Hwang Giro (1521-after 1575) while maximizing its characteristics. He served as a bridge connecting the sixteenth-century cursive style of Hwang to the late Joseon Dynasty and influenced the development of cursive script into diverse styles during the mid-Joseon period. |
