Aguilar, José Roberto (Brazilian painter and printmaker, born 1941)
|
Note: A self-taught artist, he joined the literary/performance movement Kaos, in 1956, with Jorge Mautner (1941- ), and José Agripino de Paula. In 1963, he exhibited paintings at the 7th São Paulo International Biennial. Considered one of the pioneers of the new figuration in Brazil, he took part in the exhibition Opinião 65 [Opinion 65] at the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro (MAM/RJ) in 1965. During this period, he began to paint with spray cans and a compressed air pistol. From 1969 to 1972 he lived in London, and from 1974 to 1975 in New York. During this period he began his experiments with video. He moved back to São Paulo in 1976. |
