Barrio, Artur (Portuguese mixed-media artist, born 1945)
|
Note: Luso-Brazilian moved to Rio de Janeiro as a child and started to dedicate himself to painting in 1965. He studied at the Escola Nacional de Belas Artes and, in 1969, published the text Manifesto, which content criticizes the art categories. In his installations and sculptures he uses everyday materials and objects, such as meat, blood, salt, coffee powder, among others. In the 1970s he returned to Portugal and experienced the Carnation Revolution. In 2011 he received the Velázquez Prize for Plastic Arts. |

| Portuguese ..... Artista plástico luso-brasileiro. Mudou-se para o Rio de Janeiro quando criança e começa a dedicou-se à pintura em 1965. Estudou na Escola Nacional de Belas Artes e em 1969 lança o texto Manifesto, cujo conteúdo volta-se contra as categorias da arte. Em suas instalações e esculturas utiliza materiais e objetos do cotidiano, como carne, sangue, sal, pó de café e outros. Nos anos 70 retorna a Portugal e vivencia a Revolução dos Cravos. Em 2011 foi vencedor do Prêmio Velázquez de Artes Plásticas. |
