Jan Kleykamp Galleries (Dutch gallery, 20th century)
|
Note: The house in The Hague destroyed by mosquito bombers was the former Kleykamp art gallery, one of the most famous private art galleries in Holland. Jan Kleykamp was a Dutch art dealer active in NYC, married to Alice Boney (1901-1988), with whom he opened a gallery on Fifth Avenue. They brought a shipload of Chinese tomb sculptures from the Tang Dynasty to NY and mounted an exhibition of the art. In 1926, they exhibited contemporary Japanese paintings, then rarely seen in the US. During the Depression, the gallery closed and Miss Boney divorced (see NYTimes obit Dec. 23, 1988).
