Clement II, Pope (German pope, died 1047)

Note: Of noble birth, son of Count Konrad of Morsleben and Hornburg and his wife Amulrad. In 1046 he accompanied German king Henry III on an expedition to Italy, where three rival popes (Sylvester III, Benedict IX, and Gregory VI) were supported by rival Roman families, . Having had all claimants deposed, Henry selected Suidger as pope. He was consecrated on December 25 and immediately in turn crowned Henry as Holy Roman emperor.
