McElroy, Robert R. (American photographer, 1928-2012)

Note: Photographer documented 'happenings' in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Employed as a staff photographer for Newsweek, he covered conventional news events, but spent his free time photographing the developing downtown Manhattan art scene. He provided critical documentation of ephemeral performative works by Jim Dine, Simone Forti, Red Grooms, Allan Kaprow, Claes Oldenburg, Lucas Samaras, Carolee Schneemann, Robert Whitman, and others. |
