American English ..... Frederick II was king of Sicily from 1128 to 1235; duke of Swabia, serving as Frederick VI, from 1128 to 1235; German king from 1212 until 1250; and Holy Roman emperor from 1220 to 1250. A Hohenstaufen and grandson of Frederick I Barbarossa, he pursued the imperial policies of his dynasty against the papacy and the Italian city state. He also joined in the Sixth Crusade from 1228 to 1229, conquering several areas of the Holy Land and crowning himself king of Jerusalem, reigning from 1229 until 1243.
