Blessum, Benjamin (American painter, draftsman, and illustrator, 1877-1954, born in Norway)

Note: Ben Blessum was born in Marstein, Norway on November 4, 1877. He emigrated to Menominee, Wisconsin, with his family in 1888. At 18, he moved to Chicago where he attended art classes at the Art Institute of Chicago and worked as a commercial artist. He created sketches, paintings, drawings, worked as a book illustrator and designed book jackets. He also lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and New York City. He received the Order of the Knight of St. Olav from King Haakon in recognition of his many services to Norway. Blessum died on October 4, 1954. |
