Feito López, Luis (Spanish painter, born 1929)

Note: After studying in a seminary, Feito López worked at the Academy San Fernando in Madrid, 1950-1954, where he obtained his diploma as professor of drawing. His first solo exhibition was in 1952 at the Galería Buchholz, Madrid, where he showed both figurative and abstract works. In 1953 he received a grant from the French and Spanish governments to travel to Paris, where he lived permanently after 1957. He showed regularly in Paris and internationally; is associated with the 'art informel' movement, and was active within the group El Paso from 1957 to 1960. His mature work is always abstract, often relying on a split color field or conjoined canvases. He relocated to Montreal in 1981, then New York in 1983.
