Niépce de Saint-Victor, Claude-Félix-Abel (French photographer, inventor, 1805-1870)
|
Note: Niépce was a cousin of the early photographic experimenter Joseph Nicéphore Niépce (1765-1833), also known as Daguerre's partner. In 1846, Niépce experimented and obtained a negative image on albumen. From 1847 to 1850, Niépce worked on and perfected the technique of photography on glass with albumen, along with inventing vitrotypie, or photography on glass. By 1850, Niépce was experimenting with dry paper, both negative and positive, coated with albumen, soon producing images of the sun and moon on glass negatives. In 1851, Edouard Baldus used Niépce's process in his photographs of the Mission héliographique. The following year, Niépce experimented and obtained a color photograph, though he had problems with fixing the image. From 1853 to 1855, Niépce experimented with the photomechanical intaglio process. Also in 1853 he experimented with Nicéphore Niépce's bitumen of Judea process and perfected its use in gravure. In the 1850s and 1860s, Niépce studied the action of light. |
