Piot, Eugène (French photographer, collector, and writer, 1812-1890 )
|
Note: In 1840, Piot took his first photographs of Burgos cathedral, Spain. He also travelled to Germany, Sicily, Italy, and England. According to Jammes, he was the first to conceive of the use of photography for comprehensive documentary surveys of monuments and works of art. From 1842 to 1846 and 1861 to 1864, Piot founded and directed the review "Le Cabinet de l'amateur et de l'antiquaire" in Paris. In 1848, he travelled to Athens, Greece. He returned in 1851 to photograph the Acropolis and the Pandrosion. In 1851, Piot photographed in Italy and then published an album entitled "L'Italie monumentale". He also published albums on Sicily, Italy, and one entitled "L'Acropole d'Athènes" in 1853. From 1855 to 1859, Piot photographed in Arles, Nîmes, Reims, and Pierrefonds (France), and in Pisa, Italy. |
