Gidal, Nahum (Tim) (Israeli photographer of German birth, 1909-1996)

Note: Born 18 May 1909. From 1929 to 1933, Gidal worked as a photojournalist for the newspaper Müncher Illustrierte Zeitung, Berlin, Germany. In 1936, he emigrated to Palestine, and from 1940 to 1942, and again from 1945 to 1947, he worked as a freelance photographer in Jerusalem. From 1942 to 1945, Gidal worked as a photoreporter for the British Army in North Africa, China, Burma, India, and the Middle East. In 1947, Gidal emigrated to the United States. In 1953, he became a naturalized citizen. From 1955 to 1958, Gidal taught at the New School for Social Research, New York City, New York. From 1959 to 1964, Gidal was the Editorial Advisor for Life Magazine, New York City, New York. From 1971, Gidal has taught at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. In 1975, Gidal became an Israeli citizen.
