E. & H. T. Anthony (American publisher and manufacturing company, established 1852, dissolved 1901)
|
Note: In 1852, Edward Anthony and his brother Henry T. established the firm E. & H.T. Anthony on Broadway in New York City. The firm became the largest American supplier of photographic materials in the nineteenth century. From 1861 to 1865, E. & H.T. Anthony gave financial backing to photographers Mathew B. Brady and C. Roche for Civil War coverage. The firm then published and distributed the photographs under Brady's name. In 1888, Edward introduced celluloid film to the United States. After his death in the same year, the firm was run by Henry's son Richard Anthony. In 1901, the firm became Scovill and Adams Company. In 1907, it became the Ansco Company. Agfa-Ansco was formed in 1928, and in 1943, the company resumed the name Ansco. Finally, in 1967, the company became G.A.F. Corp. |
